That's short (well sort of..) for Secure Prompt Efficient Electronic Document delivery.

The Inter-Library Loans Department will launch a new service on Monday 20th November enabling Library users to both submit and receive their ILL requests electronically.

People can send in their requests via a web form and then have scanned copies of journal articles or book chapters delivered directly from the British Library to their BUCS email account. Books and whole journal issues will, however, continue to be made available through the Issue Desk.

For the time being, this service will run alongside the existing paper-based one, but we anticipate that the improved speed and convenience that it offers will make it a more attractive option for many of our users.
