NEW LIBRARY CARDS FOR ALL LIBRARY USERS

A message regarding new library cards:

NEW LIBRARY CARDS FOR ALL LIBRARY USERS
We are moving to a new system of access to the Library using proximity cards. Cards will no longer have to be swiped for entry to the building, they will just have to be held near to a proximity reader. This, coupled with the introduction of new turnstiles, should considerably improve the rate of entry to the building. Consequently, all library cards currently in circulation have to be replaced.

The cards will also be used for our new copying service starting in October (until this service is in operation the current card will need to be retained.) Additionally, for students, the new card will serve as a BUSU card. The new card will still include a magnetic stripe, so those Departments which use the card for access to their own rooms and laboratories may continue to do so.

We would like to be able to issue as many new cards as possible to current staff and registered students over the next few weeks (excluding Freshers' Week) so I would be grateful if you could alert Departments to this. The Issue Desk staff will be happy to direct people to the card-making area.
